Elliott completed the 15 songs on this album prior to his death in the Fall of 2003. The album features Elliott's final recordings compiled by his immediate family, Joanna Bolme and producer Rob Schnapf, who worked on three of Elliott's albums (either/or, xo, and figure 8 ). "All of us had CDs with the same rough mixes," says Rob. "We listened to them on our own and came back together to compare notes. We all pretty much had the same songs on our final lists which made coming to a consensus easy." Rob Schnapf was responsible for the final mix of from a basement on the hill. "My job was to try to find the best paths possible based on my past experiences working with Elliott." In honoring Elliott's music and vision Rob did not "add or subtract a single note" from the album. �I tried to be honest to what was on tape.�
