1. The Latin American food stalls at the Red Hook Ball Fields (Brooklyn, NY)
So many new and wonderful delights, if "The Man" busts this up, it will be a culinary crime.
2. The staff at Beansprouts Pre-school (Brooklyn, NY) The care and attention they've given to my son this year has been heartwarming.
3. Panda Bear Person Pitch (Paw Tracks) I would take drugs if they were this good... but they're not.
4. Spring/Summer 2007 in The Big Apple (New York, NY) I know the planet is melting, but it really has been just about perfect weather for six months in our little corner of the world. I'm sure we'll pay for it this winter.
5. Blitzen Trapper Wild Mountain Nation (Lidkercow) jagged chunks of Beefheart, southern fried boogie stomp, McCartney pop delicacy, bratty Pavement swagger, Thin Lizzy jamming with Animal Collective in a tribal freakout, Wilco on an 8-bit bender... and that's just side one.
6. The Cinematic Orchestra live at Joe's Pub (July 8th, 2007) Improvisation with an emphasis on melody made this performance a transcendental music experience.
7. Third season of the US version of The Office (NBC/Universal) It just gets funnier and funnier (and funnier than "Extras").
8. The re-mastering and re-issuing of the Magazine catalog (EMI) Better than Joy Division? Listen and join the heretics if you dare.
9. The braised pork shank at Hali'imaile General Store (Hali'imaile, Hawaii) The highest point of many highs on my visit to the island of Maui this year.
10. LCD Soundsystem @ Coachella (Indio, California) An exuberant performance that finally knocked me off the fence.
