Ladies and gents, you might not think it but since Domino's acorn-like beginnings, we now have branches that stem all over the planet.
Possible only by the wonderful, intriguing and darn right obsessive friends and associates planting little Domino seeds where ever they are. Digging the groundwork, nurturing the routes and growing a venerable garden of musical pleasures.
First off, we head east to Mother Russia to meet the man who puts the ‘star’ in Stalin - Maseev Maxim.
P.S: Maseev isn't the stunner in the red dress.
Short intro:
I'm a smart guy who had an idea to become a football shooter. But my mum was against it and I became the serious man working in the serious Russian company Soyuz Group.
What do you love about music? What makes it personal and special to you?
“Art is not the application of a canon of beauty but what the instinct and the brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don`t start measuring her limbs” P.Picasso.
What’s your favourite Domino Artist and song?
The Pastels “Everybody is a star”. Yes, it’s true and I like it!!!!
What is the best (or one of the best) live show you’ve been to?
Paul McCartney at Red Square Concert
What’s life like where you live?
I live in Moscow – the capital of Russia. We work all the day long and we like to eat caviar, drink Vodka, play on the Balalaika and shoot bears. We have the most luxurious parties with the most beautiful girls in the world.
Short history of Russian music:
The world famous classical composers: P.I.Tchaikovsky, Glinka M.I., Rakhmaninov S.V were born in our country. The most popular styles now are dance music and rock. The most popular Russian artists are T.a.T.u and Zemfira.
What do you love about where you’re from?
In our country things are constantly changing, the social structure has been changed three times through last 100 years (monarchy-kommunizm-democracy). The way of life in our capital is so speedy as well as the terrible traffic jams we have. Our City is the city has more than 50 billionaires are living. I like our ancient architectural style which comes to us through the ages starting with Kremlin in 1367.
How do Russian people hear and get into new music?
All different ways but I think Radio stations are the 1st place.
Where are the best places to hear new music?
The best place for classic music is The House of Music or the Bolshoi Theatre. For modern music Olimpiisky and nightclubs.
Which local/national new bands are ‘breaking through’ and getting popular at the moment?
I think that last year was the year of our Russian local singer Maksim. As we don’t have the Latin alphabet (we use the Cyrillic one) we have a lot of Russian music. I think there is a new trend when the popular Russian singer is singing with the popular western artist for ex. Arash/Semenovich, Slava/Craig David.
Which Domino artists are the most popular in Russia?
Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, Tricky. I think that people identify these persons with independence, freedom and Internet.
