The first issue of Loops, the landmark collaboration between two Independents - Domino and Faber - is available from Thursday July 2nd. Combining a deep passion and knowledge of pop music, pop culture and literature, Loops is an astonishing new journal dedicated to engaging, intelligent and diverse writing about music.

Loops issue 1 contains contributions as diverse as a previously unpublished feature by Nick Kent on Nick Drake from 1978, a piece by James Yorkston about his influences called Perfect Button Drumming, an essay on Spacemen 3 by Richard Milward and an extract from Nick Cave’s new novel The Death Of Bunny Munro.

You can order a copy of the first issue of Loops here.

To celebrate the first issue, Domino and Faber held a launch party at Rough Trade East in London last week. It turned out to be a very special event, with readings from Chris Kellen, Hari Kunzru and Simon Armitage; a live performance from James Yorkston and a DJ set from Jon Hopkins.

PASTELS / TENNISCOATS NEW SINGLE & ALBUM

Pastels and Tenniscoats | 25/06/09

Image: Standing Pastels and Tenniscoats

Pastels and Tenniscoats, Two Sunsets collaboration.

Geographic is thrilled to announce that the long-awaited Pastels and Tenniscoats collaboration, Two Sunsets, is now ready for late summer release.  It will be available on vinyl, cd and download on September 7.

Recorded in Glasgow over a two or three year period usually around Tenniscoats UK touring, the album started out casually from a simple idea of booking some studio time to see what happens.  Songs seemed to arrive as needed and a group mode was established, usually Saya and Ueno from Tenniscoats with Stephen, Katrina and Gerard Love from The Pastels with Tom Crossley, Alison Mitchell, and sometimes Norman Blake and Bill Wells dropping by.  The sound is sort of compact but not too earth-bound; it opens out with graceful notes, odd notes, the melodic clang of cars and trees in the summer, and birds, trees, slopes, adventures.  It's melodic, optimistic, brilliant.

We are trailing it with a single Vivid Youth and About You on August 3rd and The Pastels and Tenniscoats are playing at the Moseley Folk Festival on September 4 and Bush Hall, London on September 6 with more dates to follow.

- Pre-Order Single: Vivid Youth / About You

- Pre-Order Album: Two Sunsets
