LA PRIEST SHARES VIDEO FOR 'LEARNING TO LOVE', DEBUT ALBUM INJI OUT NOW

LA Priest | 02/07/15

Image: LA Priest announcement

LA PRIEST – the project of former Late Of The Pier front man Sam Dust – follows this week’s release of acclaimed debut album Inji with a brand new video for its latest single, ‘Learning To Love’. Watch the video now below.

Filmed around Dust’s remote habitat in rural north Wales and in collaboration with director Isaac Eastgate, ‘Learning To Love’ proves real the LA PRIEST fever dream in its visual decadence, combining the good and evil of LA PRIEST’s sonic spectrum with a dizzying array of high frequency visions.

Inji is also streaming in full now via http://learning-to-love.com

Across its ten audaciously imaginative tracks, Inji reasserts Dust as a truly idiosyncratic voice in British music, applying the same frantically eclectic, mischievous and wilfully absurd spirit of his previous band, the beloved Late of the Pier, to ever more nuanced and affecting songwriting and composition.

Recorded over a reclusive period spanning five years following the disbandment of Late of the Pier in which Dust travelled the world, did scientific research, worked on the creation of a number of new inventions and produced several secret musical projects, Inji is a record that has its own logic and exists in its own time zone.

From the obscene space-age stadium rock guitar solo of ‘Oino’, the maddeningly catchy digi-dub single that Dust leaked sample-by-sample on a suitably enigmatic website at the turn of the year (watch the video HERE), to ‘Learning To Love’, the record's gargantuan, eight minute long prog-house centrepiece and ‘Occasion’, a melting martian Prince come-on, Inji confounds and delights in equal measure and at every turn.

If it doesn’t conform it’s because it’s not supposed to.

Inji is available on CD (WIGCD344), LP with download code (WIGLP344), Deluxe LP with download code (WIGLP344x) & Digital (WIG344D) now and includes the singles ‘Oino’, ‘Party Zute / Learning To Love’ and ‘Lady’s In Trouble With The Law’. BOB MOSES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM "DAYS GONE BY"

25/06/15

Image: Bob Moses

Canadian duo Bob Moses today announced that they’ll be releasing their debut album “Days Gone By” on Domino on September 18th 2015.

The highly anticipated full-length debut will feature 10 original tracks, including their current and critically acclaimed single “Talk.” To accompany the announcement of their album “Days Gone By” and forthcoming European shows (dates below), the duo also premiered the official video to “Talk” today via PigeonsandPlanes.com. Directed by Andreas Arvidsson and Robin Asselmeyer, and shot in Sweden, the mysterious video details the story of a young woman facing life- changing decisions – you can watch the video HERE.

Recently, Bob Moses announced a handful of summer dates, returning to London for shows at Fabric on the 10th of July and a headlining show at The Lexington on the 20th of August.  The duo will be touring extensively this autumn and winter.

Occupying the fertile ground between organic band land and an all-electronic production project, Bob Moses draw on the two poles to vividly resonate across both. A duo with an individual name, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance’s musical endeavor plays with this kind of duality all over their impressive debut album.

Alternating between brooding dance-floor burners and moments of reflective, downbeat repose, “Days Gone By” is a record that’s not in a rush to get to its destination, preferring to subtly, slowly seduce rather than sway and swagger into submission, weaving a rich spectrum of sensation over the course of its ten tracks.

The balance of man and machine is a delicate dance that Bob Moses have realized with their debut, and “Days Gone By” is a dazzling exploration of discreet, personal moods that engages and eventually engulfs, tastefully coalescing dance music’s giddy rush with more timeless, introspective song craft. Borrowing from both but slaves to neither, as a result the record is equally effective headphone listening, as it is deft club euphoria.

“We were never happy just making music on guitars,” says Tom Howie of the organic-electronic sound of Bob Moses, the Brooklyn-by-way-of-Canada duo he formed with partner Jimmy Vallance. “Our live show combines what a DJ does with a rock band,” Vallance adds. “Everything flows together in a continuous mix for the dance-floor, but it’s all our own original music, with live vocals and guitar. Then again, we came out of a scene that was trying to change what dance music is – that pushed beyond the expected sonic spectrum.”

A Domino Mart exclusive, limited edition of “Days Gone By” is available for pre-order here, featuring silver vinyl and a download code with two additional two bonus tracks.   Be sure to catch the trailblazing duo live on the following tour dates this Summer and Autumn.

FLYING SAUCER ATTACK SHARE NEW SONG, "INSTRUMENTAL FOUR"

Flying Saucer Attack | 25/06/15

Image: Instrumentals

Flying Saucer Attack are making Instrumental 4 from their forthcoming album available to stream  - listen to Instrumental 4 HERE

Instrumentals 2015, the first Flying Saucer Attack album in 15 years, will be released on Friday the 17th of July 2015.  Comprised of 15 fresh David Pearce solo performances recorded in characteristically lo-fi manner at home, using guitars only on tape and CD-R, Instrumentals 2015 is an album that will appeal both to FSA diehards and those wholly unfamiliar with the outfit’s recorded output.

The 15 tracks on Instrumentals 2015 present an impressionistic narrative which transports the listener through the excoriating dronescapes and rueful introspection of the album’s early pieces to the more redemptive cadences of the its closing half. Given its sense of momentum, maintained through Pearce’s thoughtful sequencing, this is an album that should be experienced in its entirety, the better to appreciate its deliberate emotional arc.

You can pre-order Instrumentals 2015 from Dom Mart, iTunes and your local quality record store.

Some early praise for Instrumentals 2015:

Heart flutteringly beautiful’ – The Wire
A shimmering thing….that fervently calls the faithful’ – Record Collector
Pearce creates cadenced passages that alternate between mellow minimalism and gusty bursts of feedback’ – 8/10 Uncut

DOUBLE SIX PRESENTS ‘LA VIE EST BELLE / LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL’, THE DEBUT ALBUM FROM PETITE NOIR ON 11TH SEPTEMBER

Petite Noir | 23/06/15

Image: Yannick announce

Double Six are pleased to announce the debut album release by Yannick Ilunga, AKA Petite Noir, ‘La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful’. The 11 track LP from the half-Congolese, half-Angolan, Cape Town-residing artist is due for release on 11th September 2015. This follows the release of his breakout EP, ‘The King Of Anxiety’, earlier this year.

Recorded at Box Ten Studios in London with Oli Bayston (Boxed In) and Leon Brichard (Ibibio), ‘La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful’ is a highly accomplished album with a unique concoction of influences. The record seamlessly fuses intricate contemporary electronics and raw post-punk energy with Yannick’s stirring, soulful vocals and African shuffles that echo his homeland. Named after a revered Congolese film of the same name, the album is both a beacon and a vessel of inspiration, offering empowerment to those who need it.

With footage filmed around the streets of Lubumbashi during Yannick’s recent trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the first track to be shared from the album - ‘Down’ - blends unrehearsed imagery and joyful sounds to paint a contemporary portrait of Petite Noir's Congolese background and his hopes for the country's future. Watch it below:

La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful represents the first full expression of what Ilunga calls ‘Noirwave’, which is more of a concept than a specific sound. Inspired by innovators like Mos Def and legends Fela Kuti and Tabu Ley, Noirwave encompasses a ‘new African aesthetic’, plain and simple. ‘I think for me, it's just the story their music tells and the sense of freedom. It's about seeing the positive in dark times’.

‘La Vie Est Belle / Life Is Beautiful’ will be available on CD (DS100CD), Digital (DS100D) and double vinyl LP with etched artwork on Side D (DS100LP). Pre-order the album through Dom Mart HERE and iTunes HERE, and instantly download ‘Down’.

GEORGIA RELEASES NEW SINGLE, ‘NOTHING SOLUTIONS’, ON 7TH AUGUST 2015, SHARES VIDEO AND DEBUT ALBUM ARTWORK

Georgia | 18/06/15

Image: Georgia Press Shot credit Laura Coulson

‘Nothing Solutions’ is the next single to be released from the multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, Georgia, on 7th August 2015. It is the second single taken from the North West Londoner’s highly anticipated eponymous debut album, also released on 7th August 2015. The accompanying video, which features Georgia being pursued through a dense forest, was directed by Courtney Phillips, who had the following to say about his work:

‘The initial idea for this was to have Georgia running away from something in the forest, only to find out she’s actually running with them - leading the pack. It was key to keep the visuals feeling mysterious and ambiguous, leaving the meaning open to the viewer’s interpretation - but some might say she's running from her demons. We brought the forest to life by transforming it in to a hyper real environment, injecting artificial colours in to a natural space."

We are also pleased to reveal the album artwork for ‘Georgia’, designed by internationally renowned auteurs MMParis, featuring a portrait by esteemed photographer Jamie Hawkesworth:

Georgia artwork

Written, performed and produced by Barnes in its entirety and recorded in her own home-studio, ‘Georgia’ is the product of two years of obsessive work, but also a young lifetime of voracious music listening.

Elements of the glacial yet hyper-melodic tone of early 00's grime, sweltering, mid-summer west London dub and ragga, sophisticated pop, first wave post-punk agitation, the formative influence of Missy Elliott and the high-concept, illuminated sound-design work of contemporary artists such as The Knife and Hudson Mohawke run through ‘Georgia’, a record that reveals new layers of intrigue and ingenuity with every listen.

Georgiawill be available on CD (WIGCD357), LP (WIGLP357), Deluxe LP (WIGLP357X) and Digital (WIG357D). The Deluxe LP comes with a bonus 10”.  You can pre-order the album via Dom Mart or iTunes.  Pre-orders will feature 5 instant grats - Intro, Move Systems, Be Ache, Nothing Solutions and Digits.

PAVEMENT ANNOUNCE THE SECRET HISTORY VOLUME 1 FOR AUGUST 2015

Pavement | 17/06/15

Image: Pavement Secret History

On August 14, Domino will release The Secret History Vol. 1, the first of five compilations in a new series of Pavement rarities.   The 30 tracks, 25 of which will be available on vinyl for the first time ever, include b-sides, unreleased session tracks, John Peel sessions, and a 1992 live concert from the Slanted and Enchanted era (1990-1992).  The deluxe double LP contains essays by Stephen Malkmus and Spiral Stairs, plus essays from Matador Records, Billions Corporation, and Drag City bosses, and a gorgeous gatefold designed by Rob Carmichael (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors).

The strangest thing about Pavement? Not that there were ever many non-strange things about Pavement? Even though they made their era’s finest rock albums, the albums only told half their story. Pavement also made some of the Nineties’ best albums that never happened. Until now.

Every proper Pavement album, from the out-of-nowhere debut Slanted and Enchanted to the summer-upper Terror Twilight, was accompanied by a flurry of slay tracks and stray slack—songs that got scattered on B-sides, EPs, compilations, radio sessions. But Pavement were too busy writing and recording great songs to worry about where to stash them, and they moved too fast to leave a tidy trail. So they left these songs off their albums. Some never got released at all.

Pavement made five proper album-as-albums: Slanted and Enchanted (1992), Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994), Wowee Zowee (1995), Brighten The Corners (1997) and Terror Twilight (1999). Each has its own sound. Each has its own legend. But each of their official albums has a shadow album—and it’s usually as strong as the album that actually did come out. It’s time for the world to hear the albums Pavement could have made, if they’d been a little less ambitious about music and a little more ambitious about the music business. If they’d been the kind of band to sweat the legacy. But if they were that kind of band, would they have written so many great songs? Much less these great songs? No.

Domino are finally releasing a series of these shadow albums. The first, naturally, is The Secret History, Vol. 1, collecting the songs that got away during the era of Slanted and Enchanted, which Stephen Malkmus, Scott Kannberg and Gary Young recorded on the cheaper-than-cheap in January 1991. The Secret History, Vol. 1 collects gems from Peel Sessions (“Kentucky Cocktail,” “Circa 1762”) and seven-inches (“Baptist Blacktick”) as well as live slop from the first European tours, with Mark Ibold and Bob Nastanovich in the fold. Some are outtakes from Slanted—imagine leaving these tunes off your first album, when as far as you know or imagine, it’s your only album. These tracks (some of which had never been rumored among Pavement freaks) came out on the 2002 Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe double CD reissue. But they’ve never been separately available as an album in their own right, and many of them have never been on vinyl before.

You can pre-order The Secret History Vol. 1 HERE.
