WATCH PANDA BEAR'S 'BOYS LATIN' VIDEO; PBVSGR AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

Panda Bear | 15/12/14

Image: Panda Bears Boys Latin video

The hallucinatory yet heartfelt video for Panda Bear’s ‘Boys Latin’ premiered today via Adult Swim. You can watch it below or here.

The ‘Boys Latin’ video was directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch, the duo behind videos for Bjork's ‘Wanderlust’ and Grizzly Bear's ‘Knife’. Their SF-based studio, Encyclopedia Pictura, animated the video in 3D over the course of 4 months. The story of a young woman out for a hike along a coastal tide pool turns unreal when her encounter with a sea anemone triggers a phantasmagorical reaction. She meets a man who seems to be in a similar predicament, and together they start a family of sorts.

Director Isaiah Saxon explained it this way: "We tried hard to bring out the vibe of that alternating melody that Noah is singing. We wondered what that should look and feel like from a synesthesia perspective. We've always believed that shapes and forms themselves have emotional meaning. For example, round things are often cute and non-threatening, while spiky things usually seem dangerous. We ran with that idea by creating these dynamic forms that grow out of our characters as they deal with their emotions."

Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, the fifth studio album from Animal Collective founding member and critically acclaimed solo artist Noah Lennox, a.ka. Panda Bear, will be out January 13, 2015.

For information on formats, and to pre-order the album, head here. All pre-orders from Domino, the Animal Collective store, or iTunes include an instant download of 'Boys Latin' and Mr Noah EP.

DAN DEACON ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM 'GLISS RIFFER', OUT FEB 23RD; SHARES VIDEO FOR 'FEEL THE LIGHTNING'

Dan Deacon | 11/12/14

Image: Dan Deacon

Gliss Riffer, the new album from Dan Deacon, will be out February 23, 2015  / February 24, 2015 (North America).

Gliss Riffer marks new territory for Deacon who, following up on the release of his large ensemble-based recordings - 2009’s Bromst and 2012’s America - decided to return to a simpler way of writing and recording, similar to that of 2007’s Spiderman of the Rings, which has resulted in this self-produced album.

Despite being predominately electronic, Gliss Riffer’s sonic palette is informed by his post-Spiderman of the Rings material. The Disklavier, a MIDI-fed player piano first heard on Bromst, is present here. Cross-rhythms suggestive of America’s orchestral songs and Deacon’s art music work (including a Carnegie Hall performance and film score for Francis Ford Coppola) are also in evidence.  While Gliss Riffer may contain all the instrumental layering we’ve come to expect, this album also marks a newfound appreciation for Deacon’s own vocals, as evidenced on the lead track ‘Feel the Lightning.’ Yes, the female voice is Deacon too.

Watch the Andrew Jeffrey Wright of All Ages Production-directed video for ‘Feel The Lightning’ below or here.

Gliss Riffer will be available on CD, LP, and digitally. A special pre-order, as pictured below, is available now through Domino Mart that includes a limited edition red color vinyl (limited to 777) and a limited edition 12” inflatable hand that features the Gliss Riffer hand from the album cover. Order it now from Domino Mart or digitally from iTunes and receive an instant download of ‘Feel the Lightning’.

DOMINO IS SEEKING A SOFTWARE AND WEB DEVELOPER

11/12/14

Image: Domino Neon for US Newsletter

Domino is looking for a software and web developer to work alongside our development team with ongoing coding work on internal and external facing websites, systems and APIs.

Domino is one of the leading independently-minded record labels in the world, proudly representing artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Animal Collective, The Kills, Franz Ferdinand and Jon Hopkins.

This is a unique opportunity to work across multiple platforms and technologies with volumes of real-world data and to be in a trusted position making a positive, visible contribution to the label.

Required skills:

  • You will be able to intuitively work from requirements and high-level design without the need for direct supervision.
  • You will also be able to directly assume responsibility of developing and completing tasks and sub-projects within our system under direction from the rest of the team.
  • You will clearly demonstrate your progress to Domino through efficient communication via appropriate methods including code check-ins, collaborative documents, email, Skype and face-to-face meetings.
  • You pride yourself on quality, you'll promote and develop good software engineering techniques such as code review, design review, reusability of code, refactoring and the use of standards.
  • You should have a fluency and experience in PHP5 and popular frameworks, MySQL, PostgreSQL and as well as HMVC, OO techniques and familiarity with implementing and developing front-end design.

We envisage the role lasting for at least six months, based wherever suits you, but will require frequent time spent with the development team in the London office. Strong communication skills and self-discipline are therefore essential. This role will fit somebody seeking the security and challenge of continuous, focused work, and we expect it to take a large proportion of your time and attention. We are not looking to recruit through an agency.

Please email devteam@dominorecordco.com with a covering letter, your salary expectation, and a portfolio of recent work: impress us with samples of code and intriguing and relevant projects you have managed and contributed to.

MATTHEW E. WHITE TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM, 'FRESH BLOOD' ON MARCH 10, 2015

Matthew E. White | 10/12/14

Image: Matthew E White Fresh Blood

On March 10, Richmond, Virginia-based singer, songwriter, bandleader, and musical polymath, Matthew E. White will release Fresh Blood, the follow-up to his debut, Big Inner.  Produced by White and Spacebomb partner Trey Pollard, and mixed by Pat Dillett (David Byrne, Nile Rodgers), Fresh Blood marks the next chapter of White’s Richmond, VA-based Spacebomb -- an analog studio, record label and production house with in-house strings, horns and a choir at his behest.  Fresh Blood is a bracing, beguiling record and a bold advance for White - a record that feels like the brilliant bloom to Big Inner’s striking bud.  White has also confirmed 2 very different but complimentary launch shows, the first at Brooklyn’s BRIC Arts Center on March 3, where he’ll premiere Fresh Blood with a 30-piece orchestra and the second is a special intimate solo album release show at St Luke’s in London on March 10 (which mirrors the Fresh Blood; No Skin version of the album detailed below).

Watch the new trailer, which was filmed in Super 8 and features a clip of the song "Tranquility", a tribute to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, here.

To backtrack, briefly: In 2009, White and his friends established Spacebomb to turn the tunes of songwriters they liked into grandiose, graceful statements.  To demonstrate the Spacebomb ideal, White and his wide cast of musicians - possessing a vast knowledge that could pivot from the gusto of New Orleans to the verve of Detroit, from tube-amp rock to hi-fi pop - recorded a few songs he’d pieced together and called it Big Inner, hoping to show other songwriters how the system would work. In the 18 months that followed the release, White toured America and Europe extensively, sharing the stage with St. Vincent, The National, The Mountain Goats, She & Him, among many others, and signed with Domino to release Big Inner worldwide.  White played major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Primavera, and more, and Big Inner earned five stars in The Guardian and a spot on its year-end list, plus those of Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and others. Uncut called it “one of the great albums of modern Americana,” and Paste deemed White’s ensemble as the #1 “Best New Band” of 2012.

If the first album had been serendipity, every step of Fresh Blood was to be deliberate, from his co-writing sessions with longtime friend and former bandmate Andy Jenkins to his steady arrangement brainstorms with the trusted Spacebomb house band—bassist Cameron Ralston, drummer Pinson Chanselle and guitarist Trey Pollard.  Simultaneously recognizing the trouble and delight that life can bring, these 10 original new songs of Fresh Blood are guides for times of joy, agony and the middle distance where we most often linger.

Fresh Blood will be available on CD (WIGCD309), LP (WIGLP309) and via digital download (WIG309D)– there is also a special edition of the album, which is a deluxe double LP gatefold heavyweight vinyl (WIGLP309X) containing a bonus LP titled Fresh Blood: No Skin – a complete new full length minimalist mix of the full album, minus strings/horns or choir.  You can pre-order Fresh Blood via iTunes and DomMart.

Fresh Blood tracklist:
01.  Take Care My Baby
02.  Rock & Roll Is Cold
03.  Fruit Trees
04.  Holy Moly
05.  Circle ‘Round The Sun
06.  Feeling Good Is Good Enough

THE CLANG GROUP - THE CLANG GROUP EP 16TH FEBRUARY 2015

20/11/14

Image: The Clang Group

Clang Bang Wallop What a Picture!

Clanger aka Cliff Hanger aka Clive Langer wants to be a pop star at the age of 60!

After 35 years of producing other people’s discs for other dreamers (including Elvis Costello, Madness, Morrissey, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, The Teardrop Explodes and most recently his new label mates The Amazing Snakeheads) it’s about time he got back to what he loved best.

So...he’s only gone and done it, started a rock and roll band, The Clang Group, with the legendary Roxy Music saxophonist Andy Mackay.

The concept was conceived at a dinner in February 2014 in Bethnal Green with drummer Gregg Braden bemoaning the lack of stage action. These two musicians having a coincidental window decide to form a band there and then.

The Sensational Deaf School, Clive’s original band, have had a remarkable renaissance in the last few years, rejuvenating Clive’s love of playing his old guitar, with astonishing aplomb on this remarkable EP.  Twang Twang Twang!! Electric Twang Ooooh eeeh ooohy!! Clang Bangg Wallop! What a Picture!

Now for your aural perusal I have in my tremulous sweating hands The Clang Group EP making a Global Work Space for Aural Meeting!!

Which includes Clive revisiting the incredible Shipbuilding which he wrote with Elvis Costello for the 'godfather' Robert Wyatt.

Suggs 2014

The Clang Group are Clive Langer (guitar + vox), Andy Mackay (sax), Gregg Braden (drums), John Wood (keys) and Malcolm Lunan (bass). The Clang Group EP will be available on Monday the 16th of February 2015 on 10” vinyl (RUG639) and digitally (RUGD639).  You can purchase the EP HERE.  Listen to lead track ‘Rhoda’ HERE.  Tracklisting is as follows:

BONNIE PRINCE BILLY SHARES THE VIDEO FOR ‘NEW BLACK RICH (TUSKS)’

Bonnie Prince Billy | 13/11/14

Image: Bonnie New Black Rich

The newest single from Singer's Grave A Sea of Tongues is molten, set to burn like a classic torch song should-- in your ears and forever! On ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy collaborated with longtime songwriting partner Bryan Rich to create the ardent ballad.  The mood of ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’ is circumspect at best compared to first single ‘Quail and Dumplings’. Where Quailanticipated a bright future, which salved for the hardness of the present times, the ‘New Black Rich’ solution for present-day ennui is stated in its first line: "I'll say goodbye before we meet". ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’ is brooding, with the fiddle of Billy Contreras, Chris Scruggs' mandolin and Emmett Kelly's guitar adding depth and shadows. The B- side, ‘Black as Grace’, is exclusive to this 7 inch single and not found on Singer's Grave! While ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’ holds itself up with a sense of formal structure, ‘Black As Grace,’ appears as if it's unravelling, with Bryan Rich's vocals dividing the sounds.

The video for ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’ reveals a love story, one filled with longing and hope. Bonnie’s words unmistakably come to life and manifest as tusks, hidden within his beard. He dances slowly, longing for a partner with whom he can share his experiences. As darkness falls, Bonnie wanders into a speakeasy, his eyes fixated on a woman performing on stage. Her presence is soothing, as she also exhibits physical characteristics of a creature. Bonnie initially finds solace in his new companion, but is their similarity enough to create a lasting relationship? Or will his expectations and dreams of finding a complete partner shatter his reality? Watch how it unfolds in the video for ‘New Black Rich (Tusks)’, now on Aquarium Drunkard!

Watch "New Black Rich (Tusks)" Here!

Also, in London – as previously announced – Bonnie is inviting fans and passers-by alike to express their thoughts and create a “sea of tongues” on a new billboard poster on Broadway Market. It’s inspired by the artwork for his current album Singer’s Grace A Sea Of Tongues and he wants YOU to add to it.

For those of you too far away and/or lazy: Don’t fret! Visit HERE where we have recreated the environment to express yourself via the means of pixel & hand.

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy will embark on a European tour this month including two sold out shows at St John’s in Hackney on November 18th and 19th.

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy will be playing the following dates:

15 November: Gnration, Braga, Portugal
