Pre Order Is It The Sea on CD and Double LP from £8.99
Domino is proud to present Is It The Sea? recorded live in Edinburgh during Bonnie 'Prince' Billy’s sold out tour of Scotland and Ireland (and Newcastle) back in the Spring of 2006.
Is It The Sea? finds Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy in unique surroundings (isn’t he always?) deep in the midst of some of Scotland's most adventurous traditional players including Edinburgh's Harem Scarem (pictured) on close harmonies, fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion and Glasgow's wunderkind Alex Neilson (also pictured) on drums and percussion helping the Prince reach deep into his catalogue to produce a set long on magic and high on drama.
Beloved recordings like 'Master And Everyone' and ‘Minor Place’ become rousingly emotional, ‘Cursed Sleep’ and Superwolf’s 'My Home is The Sea' 'take a looser detour exploring their own grand terrain and 'Molly Bawn' in particular sees the band revel in the possibilities of playing a traditional ballad. A loping kind of waltz built intensely verse by verse until everyone present is playing hell for leather. The result is a palpable sense of euphoria as the band and the audience realise that something pretty spectacular is going on.
Is It The Sea? adds yet another layer of depth to one of the most beguiling catalogues in modern music; sit back and imagine you’re there and your world will be a better place.
Is It the Sea? will be released on Monday the 20th of October 2008, available on CD, heavyweight double vinyl and via digital download.
