Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks | 29/05/08
Of all the things you think you’ll never see: ‘Stephen Malkmus Live on Fox TV’ must be up there.
Not only a king amongst indie rockers but also a delightful interviewee as you can see in this surreal Fox News story clip as Stephen Malkmus’s gentle, dead pan humour skims over the head of the super-annoying presenter who introduces him as a man who ‘… knows guitar like I know gout’ What the hell does that mean?
Stephen talks about what a ‘Jick’ is, ‘coming together for celluloid bliss’ providing the voice for Cate Blanchett’s Bob Dylan in the film ‘I’m Not There’ as well as some ‘did you know…’ moments like being employed as a Security Guard at The Whitney in NYC.
Although he insists , we hope you agree, his latest album ‘Real Emotional Trash’ continues to blossom with daily attention like a vibrant exotic fruit tree with branches off in all sorts of weird and wonderful directions but with its roots firmly planted in soil of Rock. And new single ‘Gardenia’ (smooth link eh?) out on 2nd June and available to pre-order now is another poppy treat that's like a ''…a present to be opened up and parceled out again'' (Gardenia)
We will be giving Stephen and his joyous Jicks a hero's welcome when they come over for a short tour of the UK and Ireland in June (with a newly added date in Brighton, Bristol and Nottingham) starting at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire (tickets available to buy from our Mart) with another one of Domino’s rare and precious species the Wild Beasts in support these shows are going to be pretty darn special.
