The ideal candidate is familiar with Domino's output, aware of its history and will complement the company culture.
On August 14, Domino will release The Secret History Vol. 1, the first of five compilations in a new series of Pavement rarities. The 30 tracks, 25 of which will be available on vinyl for the first time ever, include b-sides, unreleased session tracks, John Peel sessions, and a 1992 live concert from the Slanted and Enchanted era (1990-1992). The deluxe double LP contains essays by Stephen Malkmus and Spiral Stairs, plus essays from Matador Records, Billions Corporation, and Drag City bosses, and a gorgeous gatefold designed by Rob Carmichael (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors).
The strangest thing about Pavement? Not that there were ever many non-strange things about Pavement? Even though they made their era’s finest rock albums, the albums only told half their story. Pavement also made some of the Nineties’ best albums that never happened. Until now.
Every proper Pavement album, from the out-of-nowhere debut Slanted and Enchanted to the summer-upper Terror Twilight, was accompanied by a flurry of slay tracks and stray slack—songs that got scattered on B-sides, EPs, compilations, radio sessions. But Pavement were too busy writing and recording great songs to worry about where to stash them, and they moved too fast to leave a tidy trail. So they left these songs off their albums. Some never got released at all.
Pavement made five proper album-as-albums: Slanted and Enchanted (1992), Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994), Wowee Zowee (1995), Brighten The Corners (1997) and Terror Twilight (1999). Each has its own sound. Each has its own legend. But each of their official albums has a shadow album—and it’s usually as strong as the album that actually did come out. It’s time for the world to hear the albums Pavement could have made, if they’d been a little less ambitious about music and a little more ambitious about the music business. If they’d been the kind of band to sweat the legacy. But if they were that kind of band, would they have written so many great songs? Much less these great songs? No.
Domino are finally releasing a series of these shadow albums. The first, naturally, is The Secret History, Vol. 1, collecting the songs that got away during the era of Slanted and Enchanted, which Stephen Malkmus, Scott Kannberg and Gary Young recorded on the cheaper-than-cheap in January 1991. The Secret History, Vol. 1 collects gems from Peel Sessions (“Kentucky Cocktail,” “Circa 1762”) and seven-inches (“Baptist Blacktick”) as well as live slop from the first European tours, with Mark Ibold and Bob Nastanovich in the fold. Some are outtakes from Slanted—imagine leaving these tunes off your first album, when as far as you know or imagine, it’s your only album. These tracks (some of which had never been rumored among Pavement freaks) came out on the 2002 Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe double CD reissue. But they’ve never been separately available as an album in their own right, and many of them have never been on vinyl before.

Baltimore-based musician Dan Deacon has shared a new music video for ‘Meme Generator’, the third video from his recent album Gliss Riffer on Domino. It follows the release of the Adult Swim’s Off the Air produced video for “When I Was Done Dying.” Watch it below now.
Deacon begins the UK leg of his European tour today with a show at the Haunt in Brighton, UK and including shows in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin. Listen tomorrow from 10am-1pm GMT for a live radio session on BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne.
The ‘Meme Genegrator’ video, directed by Monica Mirabile, stems from an earlier collaboration between the two on a performance art piece with choreography group FLUCT that resulted in Deacon writing an earlier version of “Meme Generator” with lyrics. To complement the video, there’s an interactive video game based on the four different choreography sequences seen in the music video. Surprises abound for those that play the game.
Director Mirabile says in regards to the collaboration:
“Meme Generator is a game of programmed choreography. The players are downloaded into a digital world and asked to play the game of semiotic codes interacting with the "house". A few years ago Dan and I decided to collaborate on a video that I was making with my own performance art collaboration (FLUCT). That video is set in a living room which looped suburban leisure choreography created by the glitch of being physically effected by technology. The inspiration for this video has been an extension of the way our bodies are programmed by the worlds we live. In the music video, four choreographers created four dances in a liminal house. I gave no rules, just asked for a response derived from the choreographers own relationship to the "program." The program being the familiar space of the house. I'm most directly inspired by the choreography of the people that surround me, as we are all affected by a similar marketed reality. We all play the game.”
Dan Deacon has also recently been announced on the lineup of several summer US festivalsincluding Outside Lands in San Francisco, Landmark Music in Washington, DC and Tenacious D’s-curated Festival Supreme in Los Angeles. See all dates below.

Royal Trux fans, rejoice - your sick fantasies have actually been true all these years! Royal Trux's Twin Infinitives dry run, Hand Of Glory, is being exhumed and is once again seeing the light of day! In these revitalized days of Royal Trux fandom with reissues and reunion in the air, what could be more stim'latin' than a cache of dark age Royal Trux tapes? That's what's coming back - Hand of Glory is a missing piece of the Royal Trux puzzle, circa 1989-90.
Hand Of Glory was originally slated to be released following the seminal "Hero Zero"/"Love Is" 7" single. Hand of Glory is both bad-ass and half-arsed, upping the ante on what Royal Trux was capable of by doing LESS, somehow. For longer! With fewer people - therefore fewer people to pay. Newly relocated to San Francisco, Neil and Jennifer took advantage of their strange new climate by ignoring it, spending all their time indoors, pouring TONS of time and energy into this Trux direction. With black, white and blue magic floating around it, the Hand of Glory juju is dark and distinctly American, circa the end of the decade horribalis that was the 1980s (just kidding - the 90s were far worse!).
Sometime in 2000 or 2001, Neil Hagerty went to his parents' home to Virginia, where his father reminded him about a mysterious locked trunk in the basement. When Neil popped the lock on the trunk, he found the Hand of Glory tapes, stashed for around a decade there. "Domo des Burros" was complete and mixed but "The Boxing Story," was still on 4 or 5 little 1/4" reels. They were all supposed to be played on their own tape machines simultaneously. The boxes were marked and notated so he was able to piece them together and mix them down. First released in 2002 as the final nail in the Trux coffin, this essential, exo-stential collection of material will now be available once again in the confusion and desire that follows the Royal Trux reunion show at Berserktown in August. Reach for a Hand of Glory on August 28th, 2015.
Hand Of Glory will be available on CD (WIGCD115) and vinyl (WIGLP115), you can pre-order the album HERE. The tracklisting is as follows:
Matt Mondanile’s Ducktails has released the latest single from forthcoming album St. Catherine – released 24th July on Domino - in Surreal Exposure. Listen to Surreal Exposure now HERE.
Surreal Exposure follows the release of Headbanging In The Mirror, the album’s lead single (watch the video HERE), further affirming Mondanile’s melodic lilt is at its most honest and vibrant amongst the new material.
St. Catherine, his fifth full-length under his solo moniker, is a finely-honed collection of baroque pop songs that take the blissful, cascading melodic fretwork that Mondanile has made his signature with both Ducktails and his other band, Real Estate, and applies it to songs of considerable new emotional heft and dynamic range.
Mondanile partially wrote and recorded St. Catherine over the course of 2014 and then finished off recording at the start of 2015. The longest time he has ever spent working on a record, it took place in bedrooms and studios predominantly in east LA and Glendale, but venturing as far as Berlin and New York as Mondanile worked on tracks around heavy periods of Real Estate touring.
When Mondanile finally settled back in LA at the start of 2015, it was Rob Schnapf, co-producer of Elliott Smith's classic albums XO and Either/Or, that he turned to in order to help put the finishing touches to St. Catherine. Together, the pair added a new crispness and punch to the record's more upbeat, psychedelic pop tracks (such as James Ferraro-featuring, lolloping lead single "Headbanging In The Mirror", and the soaring "Into The Sky"), that recalls the artful muscularity of Smith's later work, whilst title track, the heavenly "St. Catherine" boasts one of Mondanile's greatest ever lead guitar lines and benefits greatly from Schnapf's warm, rich feel.
Where St. Catherine impresses even moreso, however, is when Mondanile steps out of his comfort zone, as he does frequently and with great success. The Julia Holter-featuring "Church" and "Heaven's Room", tracks which see Mondanile flex his muscles as a composer and arranger, introducing complex, interlocking vocal harmonies, gorgeously sweeping string parts (provided by Chris Votek and Andrew Tholl) and a host of off-kilter electronic elements into his sonic palate - channelling the likes of Broadcast, and Stereolab but with a younger, wide-eyed sensibility.
St. Catherine will be available on July 24th on CD (WIG361CD), Digitally (WIG361D), standard edition LP (WIGLP361) and on limited edition coloured vinyl LP (WIGLP361X) through Dom Mart. St. Catherine is available through Dom Mart HERE and through iTunes HERE.
1. The Disney Afternoon 2. Headbanging In The Mirror 3. Into The Sky 4. Heaven’s Room 5. St. Catherine 6. The Laughing Woman 7. Surreal Exposure 8. Church 9. Medieval 10. Krumme Lanke; 11. Reprise
Today, the NYC-by-way-of-Canada duo known as Bob Moses premiered their brand new track titled “Talk”. The sultry summer smash is now available on iTunes and Spotify and serves as an exciting taster of what’s to come from the talented producer/DJ duo.
Hailed by Consequence of Sound after their incredible set at Movement Festival in Detroit the reputable outlet tipped the duo as having “the ability to establish deep house on an entirely new level.”
Bob Moses - comprised of Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance - grew out of the underground electronic dance scene, playing in abandoned Brooklyn warehouses and as part of the Marcy Hotel collective alongside the likes of Soul Clap, Wolf + Lamb and Nicolas Jaar.
Having received their oddball moniker from Francis Harris (the iconoclastic DJ/producer and co-founder of tastemaker label Scissor & Thread) after “urban planner” Robert Moses, their name is a testament to the pair’s DNA being very much entrenched in NYC, where they currently reside.
Last year the duo signed to Domino, who released their most current single titled “First to Cry” and compilation album “All In All” (“a tantalizing precursor to what could well prove to be a stellar future” – Mixmag), marking Bob Moses’ addition to Domino’s maverick stable. “We’re massive fans of Domino artists like Four Tet, Hot Chip and Animal Collective, so it just seemed like a natural home for us,” Vallance says. “We feel lucky to be starting this relationship – it’s a big new world.”
With the forthcoming release of debut album Inji on June 29th, Sam Dust AKA LA PRIEST has released Lorry Park, the third track to be taken from his highly anticipated debut.
The new track follows in the lead of debut singles Oino (stream HERE) and Party Zute / Learning To Love (stream HERE) with each new track etching out Dust’s futuristic sonic mosaic in beguiling new ways.
Lorry Park’s release precedes a spotlight show at London’s Field Day Festival this Saturday June 6th at 5pm on the Shacklewell Arms stage. The appearance fronts a run of high profile festival slots at the likes of Way Out West and Iceland Airwaves festivals and follows his sold out London headline dates as well as a packed-out and lauded slot at this year’s Great Escape Festival.
Inji, released on 29th June 2015, is the debut solo album by LA PRIEST. Across its ten audaciously imaginative tracks, Injireasserts Dust as a truly idiosyncratic voice in British music, applying the same frantically eclectic, mischievous and wilfully absurd spirit of his previous band, the beloved Late of the Pier, to ever more nuanced and affecting songwriting and composition.
Recorded over a reclusive period spanning five years following the disbandment of Late of the Pier in which Dust travelled the world, did scientific research, worked on the creation of a number of new inventions and produced several secret musical projects, Inji is a record that has its own logic and exists in its own time zone.
From the obscene space-age stadium rock guitar solo of "Oino", the maddeningly catchy digi-dub single that Dust leaked sample-by-sample on a suitably enigmatic website at the turn of the year (watch the video HERE), to "Learning To Love", the record's gargantuan, eight minute long prog-house centrepiece and "Occasion", a melting martian Prince come-on, Injiconfounds and delights in equal measure and at every turn.
If it doesn’t conform it’s because it’s not supposed to.
Inji will be available on CD (WIGCD344), LP with download code (WIGLP344), Deluxe LP with download code (WIGLP344x) & Digital (WIG344D) with an instant grat of ‘Oino’ and ‘Party Zute / Learning To Love’. Pre-order the album through Dom Mart HERE and through iTunes HERE.
We are proud to announce the debut eponymous album by multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Georgia Barnes, released on 7th August 2015. Watch a trailer for the album featuring the opening track, Intro, below.
Written, performed and produced by Barnes in its entirety and recorded in her own home-studio, ‘Georgia’ is the product of two years of obsessive work, but also a young lifetime of voracious music listening.
Elements of the glacial yet hyper-melodic tone of early 00's grime, sweltering, mid-summer west London dub and ragga, sophisticated pop, first wave post-punk agitation, the formative influence of Missy Elliott and the high-concept, illuminated sound-design work of contemporary artists such as The Knife and Hudson Mohawke run through ‘Georgia’, a record that reveals new layers of intrigue and ingenuity with every listen.
Born and raised in a deeply musical household in north west London, Georgia combined music study at London's SOAS with a stint working on the counter at Rough Trade and quickly made a lot of very natural musical connections, being invited to play drums with DIY innovators such as Kwes and Kate Tempest.
Georgia herself is a warm, compelling, malleable voice as believable a sensual soul-bearer as she is raucous provocateur (as witnessed at her dynamic recent live shows at The Great Escape and supporting Hot Chip and Kelela) and a very necessary new pop star for 2015.
‘Georgia’ will be available on CD (WIGCD357), LP (WIGLP357), Deluxe LP (WIGLP357X) and Digital (WIG357D). The Deluxe LP comes with a bonus 10”. You can pre-order the album via Dom Mart or iTunes. Pre-orders will feature 4 instant grats - Intro, Move Systems, Be Ache and Digits.
Georgia will be playing at the official Field Day aftershow at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington on Saturday the 6th of June, headlining London’s Electowerkz on Thursday the 9th of July and shall be supporting Hot Chip on their October UK tour – dates as follows:
Flying Saucer Attack release Instrumentals 2015, their first album in 15 years on Friday the 17th of July 2015. Comprised of 15 fresh David Pearce solo performances recorded in characteristically lo-fi manner at home, using guitars only on tape and CD-R, Instrumentals 2015 is an album that will appeal both to FSA diehards and those wholly unfamiliar with the outfit’s recorded output.
The 15 tracks on Instrumentals2015 present an impressionistic narrative which transports the listener through the excoriating dronescapes and rueful introspection of the album’s early pieces to the more redemptive cadences of the its closing half. Given its sense of momentum, maintained through Pearce’s thoughtful sequencing, this is an album that should be experienced in its entirety, the better to appreciate its deliberate emotional arc.
Celebrated director Peter Strickland has shot his first music video for Instrumental 7, after meeting Dave and using the song ‘Seven Seas’ in his recently released film ‘The Duke Of Burgundy. Watch the video HERE.
“My first ever music video for a band that I'm very glad to see the return of.
Within the Great Plains of Hungary, one can almost hear this music resonating far away in the endless expanse. Three of us in the flatfield for three days with Flying Saucer Attack on our headphones and trying to remember how to use light meters whilst observing a world that mankind is gradually departing from. “ – Peter Strickland
Instrumentals 2015 will be available on CD (WIG351), digitally (WIGD351)) and on double heavyweight vinyl, tip on sleeve with downloads (WIGLP351), featuring an etching by Rachel Coe, who was previously a member of Flying Saucer Attack and is currently in Movietone. The cover artwork is by David’s sisters Erin and Tamsin. You can pre-order Instrumentals2015 from Dom Mart, iTunes and your local quality record store.
Domino will be issuing a vinyl repressing of classic Flying Saucer Attack albums in the future, news to follow shortly.
Today OWEN PALLETTdebuts a brand new video clip from his critically acclaimed In Conflictalbum. Director Brian Vu said the following about the video, which was premiered via i-D, ‘The Passions was filmed by my friends and I in familiar places. It’s an abstraction of the various stages of love shot within a video portrait style.’
Pallett said the following about the track: ‘I wrote “The Passions” after a period during which my definitions of “love” were being redefined. Queers are united by our desires, by our prioritization of the needs of our bodies and souls over the needs of tradition and societal structures. But I feel there is more to it than that. Our lovers are our family, our brothers and sisters as well as our sexual partners. “The Passions” is about the blurry distinction between these definitions.’
Following dates in Europe, Owen Pallett arrives in the UK later this week for 4 live dates culminating in a performance at Field Day Festival on London on Saturday June 6th. Pallett will also be appearing at this year’s Sonar and Green Man Festivals. Full live dates are below, with UK dates in bold. Tickets are available here.
In Conflictis full of love songs— more specifically, songs about liminal states and our loved ones locked in battle with them. “The record is meant to approach ‘insanity’ in a positive way,” Owen says— emphasis on the ironizing scare quotes around singular notions of insanity. “Depression, addiction, gender trouble, and the creative state are presented as positive, loveable, empathetic ways of being. Not preferable, per se, but all as equal, valid positions that we experience, which make us human.” Watch the album trailer for In Conflict, featuring illuminating liner notes in an alpine landscape, HERE.
In Conflict is available on CD, digitally, standard edition LP, and on limited edition double LP (with 3 bonus tracks), through Dom Mart. You may order the album HERE.
Acclaimed Canadian artist Patrick Watson confirms new U.S. and European fall tour dates in support of his new album Love Songs for Robots (out now via Domino Records). The tour will now run through December, concluding with dates in New York City (at Irving Plaza) and Philadelphia (Under Ground Arts). The first of his US Love Songs For Robots dates is tonight, at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.
In celebration of the commencement of the US tour, Patrick Watson is pleased to share a video for “Hearts”, recorded at a secret album release show in Montreal recently. Watch the video below.
In addition, KCRW yesterday featured previous single “Places You Will Go” as “Today’s Top Tune”—a preview to Watson’s upcoming appearance on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on June 5.
Love Songs for Robots continues to receive widespread critical acclaim:
The music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains, “I wanted to make a science fiction R n’ B meets Vangelis erotica with a zest of folk kind of record.” It was only halfway through writing the record when the artist found himself having, by his own submission, “a bad year” did more personal themes begin to creep in. “I started thinking about how emotional reactions were more mechanical than we think and the only thing left between us and artificial intelligence is the act of inspiration. Just food for thought.” Watch the official video for “Places You Will Go” here.
Watson composes, performs and records his albums with his full band of almost a decade, which includes Joe Grass (guitars), Robbie Kuster (drums/percussion) and Mishka Stein (bass). The recipient of Canada’s elite Polaris Music Prize in 2007, Watson and his band have performed to over 100,000 people at the 2009 Montreal Jazz Festival as well as with full orchestras in Amsterdam and Montreal. Raised and still living in Montreal, Watson himself has composed 15 scores for both film and television, including a trailer for “The Walking Dead” and Wim Wenders’ new 3D film “Everything Will Be Fine”, where he performed the songs “Cynical World” (an original for the film) and “Lighthouse.”
Love Songs For Robots is available on iTunes. The vinyl edition comes with an additional 7”, featuring a non-album track, and can be along with the CD on the Domino Mart.

Quickly building a stellar reputation on the back of a series of singles introducing their ludicrously melodic, snarling guitar pop, The Bohicas release their eagerly anticipated debut album ‘TheMakingOf’ on August21st on Domino. Watch the band in action in the trailer for Pulse Films’ director duo thirtytwo’s (Blur’s ‘No Distance Left To Run, LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Shut Up And Play The Hits’) tour documentary from the ‘Swarm Over Essexxx’ tour below.
‘TheMakingOf’ lands blow after blow. Featuring early singles XXX and Swarm, alongside Radio 1 playlisted To Die For and Where You At, the album is two barrels' worth of electrifying tunes and crackling 21st Century rock and roll.
The Bohicas are rock and roll painted in vivid primary colours. Hi def, loud, fast, shiny and above all fun. A barrage of killer hooks, razor blade riffs and choruses that slap you in the face, grab your hand and lead you onto the dance floor. All shot through with pulp imagery torn from the pages of a graphic novel.
‘The Making Of’ was produced by Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club), Chris ‘Merrick’ Hughes (Tears For Fears, Adam And The Ants) and Oli Bayston (Toy, Boxed In).
The Bohicas are Dominic McGuinness, drummer BrendanHeaney, guitarist DominicJohn and bassist AdrianAcolatse. The Bohicas’ story began in Essex where, as schoolmates, McGuinness, Heaney and John first came together over a love of The Beatles, The Kinks, Ray Charles and the new wave of guitar bands who emerged at the start of the century after the scrag ends of Britpop had finally limped off.
‘The Making Of’ will be available on CD, vinyl and digitally. In addition, the album will also be released in two special formats - the Deluxe Edition will feature a bonus 7” single featuring In The Mood and Rewind Replay, and will be available from Domino Mart and select indies. The same two tracks will also feature on theiTunes Bonus Track Edition.
The album’s artwork was created by illustrator TomerHanuka. “The immediacy and impact of Tomer's style marries perfectly to how we want our music to sound,” explains McGuinness. “The subject of most of the songs is a boy longing for a girl. We thought the cover should be inviting and dangerous so we asked Tomer to draw someone who is about to fuck off into the future and this is your chance to join her.”
‘The Making Of’ tracklisting:
1. I Do It For Your Love
2. To Die For
3. Only You
5. The Making Of
6. Where You At
9. Red Raw
10. Upside Down and Inside Out
11. Somehow You Know What I Mean
iTunes Bonus Tracks / Bonus 7”
12. In The Mood
13. Rewind Replay
