Panda Bear | 08/04/15

Image: Panda Bear by Tonje Thilesen

Panda Bear is proud to present the video for ‘Tropic Of Cancer’, from the recently-released, critically acclaimed album Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper. The Dave Portner (of Animal Collective)-directed video, in which many of the album's leitmotifs - family, the animal kingdom, death’s inevitability – are touched on in arrestingly beautiful color.

Says Portner of the video: "Its always been in the spirit of Animal Collective to want to collaborate in many artistic ways with each other. Having been a fan of Noah’s music since we were teenagers, it’s sweet to finally be able to collaborate with him on something other than just making sounds and songs. I also am thankful to get my first shot at making something a little more long running in the visual/video world. This is one of my favorite songs on the record, hence my being involved with it. I’m grateful and excited to have worked on every moment of it and to have worked with all the sweet people who helped me put it together."

THE BOHICAS SET TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE, WHERE YOU AT

The Bohicas | 07/04/15

Image: Bohicas where you at

After tearing through their homeland on the ‘Swarm Over Essexxx’ tour and impressing as guests to Royal Blood and Drenge, The Bohicas are now set to release their next single ‘Where You At’ which impacts on June 1st.

Produced by Mark Rankin, ‘Where You At’ is an insistent blast of re-energised rock ‘n’ roll which is delivered  with a rhythmic rush of melody and frontman Dominic McGuinness’s coolly understated vocals. ‘Where You At’ follows their recent tracks ‘To Die For’ and XXX’, ‘Swarm’ as The Bohicas continue to snap up disparate elements from the history of guitar music and forge them into something urgent and refreshing.

The accompanying video, directed by Chris Turner, captures the band in their natural element with a stripped-back performance which captures the attitude and exuberance of their live shows.

For 'Where You At' we eschewed all narrative and conceptual tropes in favour of creating a simple yet stylish and energetic performance video to capture what The Bohicas do best - play. When a band and track are this good I felt it muddied the waters to do anything else.” – Chris Turner

You can buy ‘Where You AtHERE and listen to it HERE.

This month sees The Bohicas commence their first ever residency. They’ll play The Deep Hum At The Heart Of It All club night at The Social on four consecutive Wednesdays – April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th - alongside special guests and Domino DJs.

FFS (FRANZ FERDINAND AND SPARKS) ANNOUNCE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM RELEASED JUNE 8TH

FFS | 31/03/15

Image: FFS

FFS – the unique collaboration between Franz Ferdinand and Sparks - have announced details of the release of their self-titled album on Monday June 8th 2015 on Domino.

The first single will be released in April – details to follow shortly. In the meantime FFS are slaking fans’ thirst by previewing the album’s closing track ‘Piss Off’, fittingly the first song written for the album and the first song now to be heard in its entirety.

Listen to ‘Piss Off’ HERE

FFS, the album, is available on CD and download and also as 16 track double vinyl + limited edition double colour vinyl special edition & deluxe CD editions featuring the extra tracks ‘So Many Bridges’, ‘King Of The Song’, ‘Look At Me’ and ‘A Violent Death’.  You can pre-order FFS via DomMart and iTunes.

Produced by Grammy-award winner John Congleton (St Vincent, David Byrne, Anna Calvi) and recorded at London’s RAK Studios, the tracklisting of the 12-track album is as follows:

1.   Johnny Delusional

2.   Call Girl

3.   Dictator’s Son

4.   Little Guy From The Suburbs

5.   Police Encounters

6.   Save Me From Myself

7.   So Desu Ne

8.   The Man Without A Tan

9.   Things I Won’t Get

10. The Power Couple

11. Collaborations Don’t Work

12. Piss Off

The seed of FFS was sown around the time of Franz’s debut album when word got back to the Maels that the band were big Sparks fans. “We thought ‘Take Me Out’ was very cool, and wouldn’t it be nice to say hello when they came to Los Angeles?” recalls Russell Mael. “We met and decided then it would be great to do something together. We put forward a couple demos, one was ‘Piss Off’. But they got swept up by everything, and it didn’t happen at that time.”

Fast-forward to 2013 when both Sparks and Franz Ferdinand appeared at Coachella. On the day of Sparks’ warm-up show in San Francisco, Kapranos was in the city trying to locate a dentist when he heard a voice behind him: “’Alex, is that you?’ It was Ron and Russell. They invited us down to see them play that night. We said hello after, and everyone agreed that the 10-year gestation period for this idea was long enough------- we should try and make it happen now.”

FFS was recorded during an intense 15-day period in late 2014. “We approached it the way bands do with their first record,” says Kapranos. “We had the songs first, rehearsed them and then recorded it all together, in a room. So no hanging around or fannying about.”

Very much a ‘new’ project, FFS doesn’t truly sound like either band, but a striking and fascinating mutation. “The real motivation was to make something new, not ‘Franz featuring Russell Mael’, or ‘Sparks with Franz Ferdinand backing them,” says Alex Kapranos.

“You can’t chart what is Sparks and what is Franz Ferdinand,” suggests Ron Mael. “I think each band unconsciously relinquished a little of who they were in order to enter new territory.”

FFS also play a handful of UK dates on their European tour this summer, including an appearance at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.

LA PRIEST ANNOUNCES UK & EUROPEAN TOUR DATES, LONDON SHOW AT ELECTROWERKZ ON 28TH APRIL

LA PRIEST | 31/03/15

Image: LA PRIEST

We are pleased to announce that Sam Dust AKA LA PRIEST will be playing live in the UK and Europe in the coming months. The tour will kick off with a date at Electrowerkz in London on 28th April and will follow with appearances at The Great Escape, Field Day and Iceland Airwaves with more dates TBA.  Full live dates are as follows:

Tue 28 Apr 2015 UK London Electrowerkz

Mon 04 May 2015 UK Manchester Sounds from the Other City Festival at Islington Mill

Thu 14 May 2015 UK Brighton The Great Escape at The Haunt

Sat 06 Jun 2015 UK London Field Day

Fri 03 Jul 2015 Netherlands Amsterdam Pitch Festival

Wed 04 Nov 2015 Iceland Reykjavik Iceland Airwaves

LA PRIEST (pronounced ‘Lah Pree-st’) is a project from reclusive electronic musician Sam Dust. Having previously used the moniker for a 12" release on Erol Alkan's Phantasy label in 2007, ‘Oino’, Dust's new single, is the first material to surface from the artist since the hiatus of Late Of The Pier, his previous band, in 2009.

Sam spent much of his time after 2010 in Greenland, studying the effects of the Ivittuut region's electro-magnetic phenomena on recorded sound, and producing more than five secret uncredited projects - some of which have already trickled out into the world to public acclaim.

Evoking the disruptive pop spirit of musicians like David Byrne, Prince, Arthur Russell or Aphex Twin, Dust's revived LA PRIEST project once again sets him apart as a true outlying original. ‘Oino’ marks the beginning of this long over-due re-emergence and is just a glimpse of the gloriously alluring hole in the fabric of the universe he's torn for himself.

The video for ‘Oino’ was shot by Dust’s brother, director Isaac Eastgate, during the pair’s travels recently and was “inspired by a story our grandad told us about a man imprisoned in the desert who escapes by singing to a wizard”, according to the artist. Watch it below.

GEORGIA SIGNS TO DOMINO, ‘MOVE SYSTEMS’ RELEASED AS FIRST SINGLE ON 25TH MAY 2015

Georgia | 31/03/15

Image: Georgia Press shot

Following its worldwide premiere on Radio 1, we are pleased to announce the first release from Domino’s latest signing - multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, Georgia

Built on a truly monstrous rhythm section, ‘Move Systems’ (released as a single on 25th May 2015), is a frenetic,  forceful and hugely imaginative track – offering as much cerebral charm as it does pure physical impact in the way it channels elements of early 00’s grime, dub, post-punk and hip hop into a genuinely new-sounding, globally minded brand of pop. The accompanying video, directed by Rollo Jackson (Hot Chip, Angel Haze, Danny Brown), is available to view now below.

Born and raised in north west London, the last few years have seen Georgia steadily establish herself as an important fixture in the city's most singular and imaginative artistic circles, playing drums for Kwes and Kate Tempest among others before emerging as an irresistible creative force in her own right with last year's Come In EP.

Newly signed to Domino, Georgia is currently putting the final touches to her debut album which she entirely wrote, performed and self-produced - details of which will be announced soon.

Georgia will be performing live at this year’s The Great Escape in Brighton on May 15th, and as a special guest of Kelela at XOYO on May 26th. Further dates are to be announced.

Following a launch with The Fader, you can now listen to Patrick Watson’s ‘Places You Will Go’, the latest track to be taken from Love Songs for Robots, his highly anticipated fifth record which will be released on May 11th.

Love Songs For Robots is the follow-up to 2012’s Adventures In Your Own Backyard, which received widespread critical acclaim— Consequence of Sound calls it “Larger than life,” while Q Magazine hails “Sublime,” and Uncut adds “Confidently ambitious.”

The new music was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Pierre Marchand Studio in Montreal. Of the record, some of which was debuted at private concerts in small loft spaces, Watson explains:

“I wanted to make a science fiction R’n’ B meets Vangelis erotica with a zest of folk kind of record.” It was only halfway through writing the record when the artist found himself having, by his own submission, “a bad year” did more personal themes begin to creep in.

“I started thinking about how emotional reactions were more mechanical than we think and the only thing left between us and artificial intelligence is the act of inspiration. Just food for thought.”

Now approaching a decade as a band, it has been a truly interesting journey for Patrick Watson. While the man shines when composing over 15 scores for both film and television, Patrick Watson, Robbie Kuster (drums/percussions), Mishka Stein (bass) and most recently Joe Grass (guitars) accomplished such feats as playing to over 100,000 people at the 2009 Montreal Jazz Festival, receiving Canada’s elite Polaris Music Prize in 2007, performing in front of a full orchestra in 2011 in Amsterdam and again in their hometown of Montreal in 2013, and most recently performing two songs in Wim Wenders’s current 3D epic “Every Thing Will Be Fine”.

Patrick Watson will be on tour in May, including a date at London’s Bush Hall on May 11th. Full dates below:

Following on from ‘Courage’, the heartrending first single from Villagers’ forthcoming album Darling Arithmetic, Conor O’Brien is proud to share a second listen from the album, in the form of the soulful ‘Hot Scary Summer’, which rakes over the break-up of a love affair blighted by “all the pretty young homophobes looking out for a fight”. THE BOHICAS ANNOUNCE MONTH LONG RESIDENCY AT THE DEEP HUM CLUB AT THE SOCIAL

The Bohicas | 10/03/15

Image: Bohicas Residency

After tearing through their homeland on the ‘Swarm Over Essexxx’ tour and impressing as guests to Royal Blood and Drenge, The Bohicas can now announce details of their first ever London residency. They’ll hit The Deep Hum At The Heart Of It All club night at The Social on four consecutive Wednesdays throughout April, with shows on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th, alongside special guests and Domino DJs.

The Bohicas are four young men from Essex and the east London borderlands making ambitious and arresting rock 'n' rollAfter introducing themselves to the world last year with the tracks XXX’ and ‘Swarm’, their current single ‘To Die For’ continues to snap up disparate elements from the history of guitar music and forge them into something urgent and re-energised.

The Bohicas are putting the finishing touches on their upcoming debut album which will be released later this year. The quartet are also set to play the following headline shows and festivals in the summer:

May

14th – 15th – Brighton, The Great Escape

21st – Cambridge, Portland Arms

22nd – Nottingham, Bodega

25th – Liverpool Sound City, Baltic Stage

26th – Sheffield, The Harley

27th – Glasgow, King Tuts

28th – Newcastle, Cluny

June

1st – Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach

2nd – Bristol, Louisiana

3rd – Southampton, Joiners

4th – London, Oslo

6th – Birmingham, The Rainbow

7th – Leeds, Brudenell Social Club

8th – Manchester, Soup Kitchen

August

1st – Penrith, Kendal Calling

September

5th – Portmerion, Festival No. 6

Frontman Dominic McGuinness isn’t big on labelling their approach within the confines of genre. You know when you go to see a great film at the cinema and come out of it feeling like you're the lead character, walking down the street like the Fonz or De Niro?” he questions. “I want people listening to our band to feel like that"

“People ask what sort of music we make, but if I say rock ‘n’ roll they instantly think of the fifties,” adds guitarist Dominic John. It’s the same starting point in terms of the energy behind it, but it’s not referential and it’s really not about looking back. It’s seeing that danger and energy, but taking it somewhere else.
