Georgia | 04/08/15

Georgia’s eponymous debut album, released on Friday 7th August, is available to stream in full now, HERE.

Written, performed and produced by Georgia in its entirety and recorded in her own home-studio, ‘Georgia’ is the product of two years of obsessive work, but also a young lifetime of voracious music listening.

Elements of the glacial yet hyper-melodic tone of early 00's grime, sweltering, mid-summer west London dub and ragga, sophisticated pop, first wave post-punk agitation, the formative influence of Missy Elliott and the high-concept, illuminated sound-design work of contemporary artists such as The Knife and Hudson Mohawke run through ‘Georgia’, a record that reveals new layers of intrigue and ingenuity with every listen.

You can watch clips of Georgia in her studio talking through each track on her album, HERE.

Georgiawill be available on CD (WIGCD357), LP (WIGLP357), Deluxe LP (WIGLP357X) and Digital (WIG357D). The Deluxe LP comes with a bonus 10”.  You can pre-order the album via Dom Mart or iTunes.  Pre-orders will feature 5 instant grats - Intro, Move Systems, Be Ache, Nothing Solutions and Digits.

Across its ten audaciously imaginative tracks, Inji reasserts Dust as a truly idiosyncratic voice in British music, applying the same frantically eclectic, mischievous and wilfully absurd spirit of his previous band, the beloved Late of the Pier, to ever more nuanced and affecting songwriting and composition.

From the obscene space-age stadium rock guitar solo of ‘Oino’, the maddeningly catchy digi-dub single that Dust leaked sample-by-sample on a suitably enigmatic website at the turn of the year (watch the video HERE), to ‘Learning To Love’ (watch the video HERE), the record's gargantuan, eight minute long prog-house centrepiece and ‘Occasion’ (watch the video HERE), a melting martian Prince come-on, Inji confounds and delights in equal measure and at every turn.

If it doesn’t conform it’s because it’s not supposed to.w

Inji is available on CD (WIGCD344), LP with download code (WIGLP344), Deluxe LP with download code (WIGLP344x) & Digital (WIG344D) now and includes the singles ‘Oino’, ‘Party Zute / Learning To Love’ and ‘Lady’s In Trouble With The Law’. Buy the album through Dom Mart HERE and through iTunes HERE.

Lou Barlow | 22/07/15

Image: Brace The Wave

Lou Barlow has announced a new solo album, Brace the Wave, due out September 4th via Domino. His first solo release in six years, it comes as a follow-up to 2009's Goodnight Unknown and marks the third release under his own name. You can hear snippets of various album tracks -- along with commentary from Barlow himself -- in a new album trailer streaming below.

The album is currently available for pre-order via iTunes , with a special Dom Mart only version featuring an original Lou Barlow Polaroid "selfie" inserted into the artwork.

Barlow's extensive and celebrated discography includes releases from Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, and his first solo endeavour, Sentridoh. Most comfortable writing uncomfortable songs, Brace the Wave finds the songwriter exploring yet another transitional period in his life. Tracks like “Redeemed”," "Wave," and "Moving" employ his early methods of tuning his ukulele down low and writing during the recording process, while album tracks "Lazy" and "C&E" are traditional-style folk songs that he performed live in the studio. The album was recorded in about six days with Justin Pizzoferrato (who also worked on Dinosaur Jr.'s BeyondFarm, and I Bet on Sky) in Easthampton, MA, which Barlow now calls home after seventeen years in LA.

Currently on tour with Dinosaur Jr., Barlow will celebrate the release of Brace the Wave with a string of solo dates kicking off on September 8th in the US and arriving in the UK for a London show at Hoxton Bar And Grill on the 5th of October- see below for a full list of upcoming shows.

Matthew E. White | 21/07/15

Image: MEW_VisionStill

Matthew E. White has shared a new music video for ‘Vision’ from his album Fresh Blood released earlier this year on Domino.  The groovy, horn-driven track gets a heartwarming film treatment from filmmaker Clara Aranovich  and features Edi Gathegi (Twilight, Justified, X-Men) and Caitlin Stasey (Reign, Please Like Me, Neighbours). Nowness, who co-produced the video, is streaming it on their site HERE.

Of the Vision music video, director Clara Aranovich says:

This track captivated me immediately upon first hearing it on an indie radio station in LA and I knew instantly I wanted to direct a music video for it. I’m generally more drawn towards narrative videos and had been doing some research into the life experiences of the visually impaired (believe it or not, it was not the title "Vision" that inspired the idea of exploring blindness but rather a coincidence). The song lends itself so beautifully to the growth and conclusion of a complete story that the writing process was breezy. And, as is the norm with me, what started as an intimate realistic story turned into something a bit absurd and surrealist and about so much more for me.”

The Richmond, Virginia-based singer, bandleader and modern soul visionary released his second album Fresh Blood to widespread acclaim earlier this year, earning accolades like “excellent” from NPR Music, “delightfully warm” (Spin), “hot-buttered gorgeousness” (The Evening Standard), and “a delicious second helping” (The Guardian).

Matthew E. White will continue touring this summer in support of Fresh Blood.

Ducktails | 20/07/15

Image: Ducktails - St. Catherine artwork

Stream Matt Mondanile’s Ducktails new album St. Catherine now at Noisey HERE.

St. Catherine is the fifth full-length under his solo moniker, is a finely-honed collection of baroque pop songs that take the blissful, cascading melodic fretwork that Mondanile has made his signature with both Ducktails and his other band, Real Estate, and applies it to songs of considerable new emotional heft and dynamic range.

Mondanile partially wrote and recorded St. Catherine in bedrooms and studios predominantly in east LA and Glendale, but venturing as far as Berlin and New York. When Mondanile finally settled back in LA at the start of 2015, it was Rob Schnapf, co-producer of Elliott Smith’s classic albums XO and Either/Or, that he turned to in order to help put the finishing touches to St. Catherine.

The Julia Holter-featuring “Church” and “Heaven’s Room,” see Mondanile flex his muscles as a composer and arranger, introducing complex, interlocking vocal harmonies, gorgeously sweeping string parts (provided by Chris Votek and Andrew Tholl) and a host of off-kilter electronic elements into his sonic palate – channelling the likes of Broadcast, and Stereolab but with a younger, wide-eyed sensibility.

St. Catherine will be available on July 24th on CD, standard edition LP, and limited edition coloured vinyl LP, through the Domino Mart and digitally on iTunes here.

This July see’s the 20th anniversary of the now seminal, sophomore album by Elliott SmithTo celebrate, we are having a massive sale on all of Elliott Smith’s albums. Whether you are discovering Smith’s work or a long-term fan filling in gaps, this is a one off opportunity to pick up some serious bargains. All albums on sale on LP & CD and exclusive bundles available.

The self-titled, 10-track masterpiece went under the radar at the time of release, but has been retrospectively lauded by press and fans alike. Kicking off with; ‘Needle In The Hay’ – used in the Wes Anderson film ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’, this record is an extremely personal and intimate outing from the now legendary singer-songwriter.

The raw potential on display in Heatmiser (the group where Smith cut his musical teeth) and ‘Roman Candle’ (Smith’s debut solo record) reaches its full fruition on ‘Elliott Smith’. Baroque tinged melodies and dreamy chord progressions are the order of the day and we hear a very candid and emotionally charged Smith throughout.

'Needle In The Hay', taken from the his self-titled sophomore album, is streaming below with Roman Candle available from Dom Mart now HERE and From A Basement On The Hill available now HERE.

Available on LP & CD and exclusive bundles.

Julia Holter | 09/07/15

Image: WIGLP341

Have You In My Wilderness, released on 25th September 2015, is the fourth full length album by Los Angeles artist Julia Holter and her most intimate album yet. Recorded in her hometown over the last year and once again crafted with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Cole Greif-Neill, the album follows 2013's Loud City Song and two much-lauded previous titles - Ekstasis (2012) and Tragedy (2011).

Album opener, ‘Feel You’, is the first single from Have You In My Wilderness, also released on 25th September 2015.  Watch the video below now.

Have You in My Wilderness was written from the heart – warm, dark and raw – and explores love, trust, and power in human relationships. While love songs are familiar in pop music, Holter manages to stay fascinatingly oblique and enigmatic, with some of the most sublime and transcendent music she has ever written. Like Holter’s previous albums, Have You in My Wilderness is multi-layered and texturally rich, featuring an array of electronic and acoustic instruments played by an ensemble of gifted Los Angeles musicians.

Have You in My Wilderness is also Holter’s most sonically intimate album, with her vocals front and centre in the mix, lifted out of the layers of smeared, hazy effects. The result is striking: clear and vivid, but disarmingly personal.

Have You In My Wilderness will be available on CD (WIGCD341), Digital (WIG341D) and LP (WIGLP341). For a very limited period the vinyl LP will come with a photographic print signed by the artist, via Dom Mart only. The album is available to pre-order with an instant grat of ‘Feel You’. Pre-order from Dom Mart HERE and iTunes HERE.

The album tracklisting is as follows:

  1. Feel You
  2. Silhouette
  3. How Long?
  4. Lucette Stranded On The Island
  5. Sea Calls Me Home
  6. Night Song
  7. Everytime Boots
